Wheatley came back from 17-10 at half time to win 32-20.
With this weeks weather more in favour of Wheatley's high tempo game and with a strong squad to pick from the glass was definitely half full at kick off time!
Wheatley started brightly scoring on the 5th minute with some great running rugby not allowing Slough time to settle, with players coming on to the ball at pace and always making the gain line Aaron Ward popped up in space and sprinted for the line to open the scoring Aaron Laman added the conversion. 7-0
Slough woken up by the fast start began to get into their rhythm hitting one out rugby with the Wheatley defence stedfast and allowing little to break trough, on the 25th minute Slough broke through with a rare trip outside of 10 the visiting left wing jinked over for a converted try 7-7
immediately Wheatley hist back with a penalty in front of the post's after a series of high tackles eventually got penalised with Aaron Laman stretching the lead to 10-7
On the half-hour mark Slough found a level of constancy and with Wheatley forcing the final pass too frequently the turnover ball was letting Slough off he hook and in due course Wheatley were punished with 2 further tries for Slough with the later converted giving Slough the half time lead of 17-10
With a positive half time response Wheatley once again upped the tempo moving the big slough pack around with the set piece now also working in Wheatley's favour there was no let up for Slough with the fresh legs of Jake Lewis coming off the bench adding a further dimension to the back line, Aaron Ward grabbed his brace on 53 minutes after great work from the forwards allowed the ball to move wide with Zach Guyer carrying the ball up field and feed Aaron who crashed over out wide Aaron Laman missing the conversion 15-17
2 minutes later Skipper Alex Acklam was in support of utility player Jack Smith, Jack was able to evade several would be tacklers to go on a 40 meter run with Skipps on hand to grab the try with Aaron Laman adding the conversion 22-17
Wheatley still in the ascendancy and with Slough clearly growing in frustration a knock on on the half way turned into a penalty on the 10 meter line after the Sloughs 10's attempt at explaining the officials "mistake" was less than well received! Aaron Laman did the honours 25-17
Running the clock down Wheatley opted for the scrum at every opportunity and punishing Slough even on the visitors put in Wheatley were turning ball over at will, at one such scrum the home team turned the ball over with man of the match Joe Taylor making one of his numerous crash balls count with Aaron Adding the extras, 32-17
Credit to Slough they didn't give up coming straight back out the blocks to grab a try bonus point with the visitors lock crashing over out wide with the conversion missed. 32-22
Great resolve from Wheatley to come back from a 7 point deficit, with some great performances all round, adding fresh legs from the bench at our leisure is a welcome novelty and not having enforced changes allowed us to be more tactical and thereafter rolling players on and off kept the round pegs in round holes.
