Tag Season Kicks off This sunday morning for our under 7's and under 8's.

U7-U8 training starts this Sunday at 10:30am.

We have an open morning for all girls and boys to come and try their hand at tag rugby. Girls and boys don't be shy - come up and give it a try; you get a free taster sessions before you have to join the club. Rain does not stop play! Age groups are based on the child's age on the 1st of September of each season
At Wheatley Minis, the emphasis is on every child enjoying themselves and developing their skills at the game of rugby – as an individual and as part of a team. The coach will be Jack Smith, a senior play for Wheatley 1st XV. Alongside Jack, we also aim to have continuous input from the seniors throughout the season, thus making sure training is varied and most importantly, fun.

U7s and U8s play tag rugby which is a non-contact game with the emphasis on running and evasion skills. Each player wears two plastic straps hanging by Velcro from a belt. Players are tagged by taking off their tags and they must immediately stop and pass to one of their teammates.

This form of rugby introduces them to game basics such as passing backwards, running and dodging with the ball and keeping onside. It also introduces them to quick decision making, team play and respect for the match officials.

We meet at Holton Playing Fields (OX33 1QL), opposite Wheatley Park School, at 10.30 each Sunday morning from the start of September to the end of April, except when we have away matches. During matches all children are given the same opportunity to play, not just the strongest.

We have a well-run clubhouse selling bacon rolls and hot drinks along with a tuck shop for sweets and cold drinks during training and home matches.

If the match is an away fixture the children are taken to the venue by parents, so this can mean an earlier start. Sharing lifts is often a good idea. Hot dogs are provided to the players on match days.

We look forward to seeing you all there having fun whilst learning and playing this great game.
